These words describe the downfall of the last king of Judah, Zedekiah, and the destruction of the kingdom. But these words also speak of another king, one who was yet to come, one to whom the throne of David has been promised . Who is this promised king? For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called. . . the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his_kingdom. . . from henceforth even for ever" (Isaiah 9:6-7) .
